Festive start to construction of Westgebouw in Arnhem
On Tuesday 22 September, the official start of construction of the Westgebouw in Arnhem was marked by the placement of a time capsule. At the site on Velperweg, Gaudium Real Estate, together with Pleijsier Bouw, is developing a sustainable clustered residential care building for Dennenhorst Wonen. The Westgebouw represents the final phase of the High Park area development and will add a high-quality residential care facility to this green, urban environment.
The new building will comprise 38 care studios of at least 30 square metres, each with private bathroom facilities, as well as five larger care apartments for couples. The building will be designed in accordance with Dennenhorst’s residential care concept, which focuses on personal autonomy, small-scale communal living with care, and connection with the surrounding community. The homes will be divided across four residential care groups, each with spacious communal living rooms. In addition, the building will feature terraces and a large rooftop terrace overlooking the city of Arnhem.
Maikel Withaar, Director of Development at Gaudium Real Estate, adds:
“With the Westgebouw, we are creating a high-quality living environment in a special location in Arnhem. Here, living together, care and quality of life come together in a unique way, providing a welcoming new home for a vulnerable group of residents. Together with Dennenhorst and Pleijsier Bouw, we are adding a sustainable residential care facility while also bringing the High Park area development to a fitting and successful conclusion.”
The new building was designed by Powerhouse Company and will be constructed by Pleijsier Bouw. Sustainability is a key principle of the design. The complex will be fully gas-free and, upon completion, will meet the highest sustainability standards, including GPR, BENG and CRREM requirements. The Westgebouw will also be integrated into High Park’s landscaped park, completing the wider park area.
Jan-Lodewijk de Vries, Managing Director of Dennenhorst Wonen:
“In January 2028, we will welcome the first residents to our new location. It is wonderful to see that many families are already finding their way to us. With this residential care facility, we aim to provide vulnerable older people with a warm and welcoming home where they feel safe, seen and connected. A place where social interaction, wellbeing and professional care go hand in hand. Together with our care and wellbeing professionals, we ensure that residents can rely every day on personal attention, suitable activities, freshly prepared meals and the care they need.”
